Good Shepherd Asia Pacific Regional Campaign

A GSAP regional campaign ran from the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October until Human Rights Day on 10 December 2020.  This Campaign offered us a way of being in solidarity as Good Shepherd and connected with one another.  Learn more about the creative and consciousness-raising activities which took place.

The GSIF Asia Pacific Office in liaison with other mission leaders chose this as a timely opportunity for an Asia Pacific collaborative project, particularly as:

  • We have a Congregational Position Paper on the ‘Girl Child’,
  • It is at the heart of our mission,
  • The dreams and hopes contained in the recent AP Assembly SCOPE document reveal our desire to be more connected as a region

Reflections on Launch event 11 October

Sr Winifred Doherty (Main Good Shepherd representative at the United Nations) described the Launch event as 'a historic groundbreaking event, a festival proclaiming girls’ rights with girls and for girls throughout the 19 countries of Asia Pacific. It was a truly global virtual experience.....'

UN International Day of the Girl Child

The International Day of the Girl Child (IDG) is celebrated annually on October 11 to promote girls' empowerment and fulfilment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face.  See

Good Shepherd Asia Pacific IDG 2020 Campaign

The objectives of the regional campaign are borne out of the current COVID19 situation where many children are now attending virtual classes; potentially raising the need to know safety rules whilst using the digital platform.

  • Create awareness of the human rights of the girl child
  • Enhance the capacity of the girl child to know safety rules when using the digital platform (prevention of OSEC and other forms of exploitation)
  • Introducing support systems and safe spaces for the girl child to express joys / successes as well as challenges / violations to her human rights

The campaign will be focussed on advocacy as well as an internal review of GS programs in Asia Pacific.
